The father of the modern drugstore, Charles Rudolph Walgreen, was born near Galesburg, Illinois, in 1873.

It's the birthday of Francis Parker, founder of progressive elementary education in the United States. He was born in Bedford, New Hampshire, in 1837.

It's the birthday of sculptor Harriet Goodhue Hosmer, born in Watertown, Mass.,1830.
